The Organizing Committee would like to invite students, postgraduates and young scientists to participate in the International Feofilov school for young scientists “Spectroscopy of activated photonic materials” which is to be held in Saint-Petersburg (Russia), from 20th to 21st November 2014, and is organized by the Saint-Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO University).
The main objective of this school is creating a platform for sharing experience and knowledge between young sciences and well-known distinguished scholars in the field of photonic materials. The Feofilov school for young scientists will pave the way for the celebration of the IYL2015 by motivating students and young scientists, and emphasizing the importance of light and optical technologies in their lives, for their futures and for the development of society.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Saint-Petersburg!
Organizing Committee of the International Feofilov School
The Feofilov school for young scientists is organized on the eve of the celebration of P. Feofilov`s 100th birthday.
Petr P. Feofilov, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, is one of the most famous Russian scientists. He began his research under the supervision of member S.I. Vavilov, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
P. Feofilov has made a great contribution to the development of physics of crystals doped with transition metal ions. He is one of the first in the world to have begun the systematic investigation of the optical properties of crystals comprising ions with uncompleted shell, e.g. rare earth (RE) ions and uranium. He was the first to state such essential problems as multiple activator sites problem, crystal-chemical conditions of activation, physical structure and energy of the RE-sites.
